Should the father of the bride wear a tux?
July 9, 2010
If the groomsmen are all wearing tux should the father of the bride also wear one or should he wear just a suit?
My dad is wearing the same tux as the guys, but having a different colour vest and tie to them (the vest & tie will match my mum’s outfit). If my fiance’s father were making the effort to come to our wedding he’d have also had a tux.

they typically do since they are in the wedding giving away the bride, but i don’t think it is a necessity

Wear a tux and make all you want it to be(a suit is for business, a tux is for special events)

I think it’s up to him but if I were the father I would definitely want to look better so I would wear a tux but that’s just me.

Either one. If he has a nice suit he can wear than that’s fine. But when I got married my dad rented a tux along with my guys so he matched because we had brown pin stripped tuxes. I think most tux shops give you the grooms free and like a discount on the father of the brides. At least that’s what our place did. Congrats on the wedding
Good Luck!

Wow, some people are a little mean. It really depends on your opinion.
I would personally ask my father to wear a tux. And, if the groom, best man, etc. are I think he should to! Hope this helped!

Depends on what type of person he is. My dad didn’t and I was fine with that. The important part is that he’s there. AND my father in law is this big time cowboy. So he this western suit thing with his boots. As the bride I didn”t mind at all. They were both comfortable

He can wear a tux, he doesn’t have to. It would depend on how formal the wedding is.
keep in mind your parents are NOT part of the wedding party, they are either the hosts or honored guests. They don’t have to match the wedding party. they can, but they don’t have to.

Yes. He should and the father of the groom should too. The first time my dad ever wore a tux was at my brothers wedding (He got married in a suit).

The father of the bride most definitely should wear a tux. It just wouldn’t look right having him walk you down the aisle in a suit after all the groomsmen proceeded him in tux’s! FYI: the father of the groom should also wear one too!

He should be dressed on the same level of formality as the bridal party. If he really doesn’t want to, though, its not something to make a big deal out of.

Absolutely. You will want him wearing a tux. Picture him walking you down the isle…I think you will want him looking his best, which means a tux

He should wear what everyone else is wearing. If they groom/groomsmen are wearing tuxes, he should as well.
